Introduction
Waste Recovery
Research undertaken by Mӧbius has shown that the traditional construction waste management services often only cater for wastes of value or with simple recycling options. Materials such as precious metals, steel, timber, bricks and concrete are often the only wastes reclaimed, whilst everything else ends up in landfill.
The aim is to see more of these materials properly collected, sorted and made available for reuse, and not buried in landfill.
Market Assessment
In line with the Victorian Government's Towards Zero Waste (TZW) Strategy, Mӧbius believes there is an opportunity to contribute to waste reduction and promote opportunities for material recovery.
Mӧbius is committed to working closely with the construction industry and, notably, will put in place a data collection system to record the type and amount of waste coming from individual building sites. In doing this, Mӧbius' objective is to achieve a level of service that is both comprehensive and is market competitive.
Any 'problem' waste materials that are difficult to be reused or recycled will be recorded and the data analysed to determine "upstream" improvement opportunities to assist companies with waste reduction.
Mӧbius aims to achieve at least 80% resource recycling target in line with the TZW Stragegy.
This would be an improvement on existing recycling levels within the industry. Additionally, Mӧbius' purposely equipped facility is expected to create employment opportunities within the local region. A second facility is also being considered for the western suburbs of Melbourne.
And with the support of companies within the industry, possibly through the establishment of joint strategic ventures, Mӧbius believes there is opportunity to increase recycling rates even further than 80%.
With this in mind, Mӧbius is focused on moving towards a "zero waste" outcome.
